Baithak, 2019
The first Baithak was organized on the weekend of 16th-17th Nov, as an attempt to showcase the performances of all the students of Anvita. We had the honour of hosting eminent Kathak exponent Sharmila Sharma, who was also the chief guest for the program.
The stage was set up in a traditional Baithak style. Around 15 students presented Kathak choreographies, various rhythmic compositions and bandishein on teen taal, which they had learnt over the last year.
A 2-day Kathak workshop conducted by Sharmila ji was also organized the same weekend, where both kids and adult students got the opportunity to learn traditional choreographies of Lucknow Gharana, on compositions by Pandit Birju Maharaj.
The key highlight of the evening was the lecture demonstration by Sharmila ji herself, leaving everyone mesmerized with her powerful Nritta (technical virtuosity) on a Dhamar piece, and beautiful Abhinaya (expressive aspect) on a Krishna thumri.
This event was really special, as it reflected the hardwork and dedication of students, my own teaching journey over the last 2 years, and the enthusiastic participation and support of all students and parents to make it a wonderful memorable evening.
